FELINE NUTRITION

I have always been interested in finding the best diet for my cats. My search for the perfect diet has led me to several web sites with ideas on feline nutrition so I am putting links on this page to some of those sites so you can read what others have to say about diet in the hope that you will be able to find the perfect diet for your cat.

We feed a diet that is a part good quality commercial canned food and mostly raw meat. We only give dry food as a treat a few biscuits at a time. We do not believe dry food has any value in cleaning teeth as in the past we have noticed that when the cats have eaten too many biscuits and regurgitated them they are always whole, not chewed. We have also had cats with urinary tract blockages. (Crystals in the urine). Since feeding a mostly raw diet we have not had this happen. We also believe too many biscuits, even the best quality ones may contribute to health issues such as diabetes, kidney and urinary tract problems whereas raw chunks of beef or chicken necks a few times a week encourages the cat to chew and is a more natural diet. CATS ARE CARNIVORES.

Please only use dry food in moderation, not as a complete diet. We give our cats coursely minced prime beef most nights with human grade steak cut into chunks once or twice a week. Two or three times a week we feed chicken necks for breakfast, the others days we feed high quality canned food. Our cats always have at least one raw meat meal each day. We include a good quality dietry supplement with our raw meals and use other additives such as canned fish, egg yolks and a source of omega 3 fatty acids. We believe cats being obligate carnivores have teeth designed to tear flesh and should have a diet which includes a good amount of raw meat and that supplements should be added for a complete diet. We have tried giving our cats chicken wings, some will accept them while others treat them as play things to bat around the floor! They prefer chicken necks which have been chopped into smaller portions. (Good for their teeth.)
The above is not veterinary advice, just my personal view, you should gather all the information and make your own informed choice.
After 32 years of breeding I am convinced  that a mostly raw diet is best but you need to use supplements as well.
I hope you will find some useful information in the following links.
